In the United States 1 out of 5 young people lives in poverty, juvenile crime escalates between the hours of 3-6pm Monday through Friday when school is in session, and 15.1 million children across the country are left unsupervised afterschool. Additionally, in America 3 out of 10 children will not graduate on time and the number of adolescents who are overweight has tripled since 1980. Today 30% children living in our great country are obese or overweight. For these reasons and more the Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to providing a safe place for school age children to be afterschool and in the summer.
It is our goal to help our members:
- Successfully transition through the grade levels in school
- Discover their strengths, passions, and career interests
- Graduate from high school and complete a post-secondary education
While our members are in our Club they are able to:
- Establish friendships
- Learn new skills
- Develop healthy habits
- Strengthen their moral character
- Receive essential needs assistance
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT - TRIPLE PLAY
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation has issued a Triple Play grant to our local Club to provide programming encouraging healthy eating and physical activities for Club members. As Boys & Girls Clubs of America's proven health and wellness program, Triple Play is a game plan for the mind, body and soul. The program's three components encourage Club members to eat healthier (mind), become more physically active (body) and increase their ability to engage in healthy relationships (soul).
